Work over the years

Over my years of study I have done several projects including pattern cutting, garment construction and designing collections. Below are a few examples of this work from my first university project to my latest. I think these projects really show the progression of my work and how I have developed and refined my skills.

Llinell Arfodir Cymru

2016-17

This project is the Final Major Project I did at university, it was inspired by my love of the Pembrokeshire coast in West Wales. I began my research on the beach by looking at the different shapes, patterns and colours on the pebbles and rocks. This inspired my research into minimal fashion, with simple cutting and interesting silhouettes, paired with unique and beautiful print.

Bluenile For Lipsy

2015-16

For this project I was to design a collection of mainly dresses for the brand Lipsy. After speaking to a designer at one of Lipsy's suppliers, Bluenile, I chose some key S/S 15 trends and designed a collection around these trends. I produced a trend board and from that did some initial sketches that I narrowed to down to a small collection. I then produced a range plan and line-up on Illustrator to clearly show the collection.

Toile Development

Silver Lining

2014-15

When beginning this project I decided to begin my design work by collecting fabrics I liked and thought went well together. I then gathered these fabrics to drape and pin on a stand, this inspired my initial design process. I developed my designs and began to toile some of the garments to help influence the designs and figure out how the garments would be made. This project resulted in a toile of one of the outfits in the fabric I had intended.

I have learned a lot over the years and these 3 projects are the ones that have developed my skills the most and that I feel have had the most successful outcomes. The projects I have done in between and alongside these have all been beneficial in me learning new sewing techniques and designing skills. To view these other projects please click below.
